What a small business website costs in 2026

The small business website cost is four bills, and you can add them up this afternoon. Open your bank app. Search the last twelve months for the designer, the host, the domain, and any invoice that says edit, update, or maintenance.
Where the small business website cost actually sits
Write four lines on paper. Build. Host. Domain. Edits. Put the dollar amount next to each one. If you cannot find the host charge, that is still a cost. It means you do not know who keeps the site online.
- Build: the original project, even if it was years ago. Note whether that person still answers.
- Host: the monthly or yearly charge to keep the files online. Note where the login is.
- Domain: the yearly renewal. Confirm the name is in your account, not a vendor's.
- Edits: every time you paid to change a number, an hour, or a town.
Add a fifth line that has no invoice. Hours the page still says you close at 5, when you close at 4. A Saturday when the card on the host expired and a customer told you the site was down. Those are costs. They just never arrived as a bill.
How to read a quote against that list
A one-time design quote covers the build line and then stops. Ask four questions before you compare it to a monthly price. Who answers when the hours change. Where the host login will live. Whether the domain stays in your registrar. What you pay in the twelve months after launch.
Put those answers on the quote. A low project fee with a lost login is not low. A monthly price that includes hosting and edits is not high until you have added your real host and edit bills beside it. This page does not print another company's fee. Use your own statements.
What to do when a line is missing
If you cannot find the host login, search email for the company name plus the words host, password, and cPanel. Call the number on your last host receipt. Do this before you pay for a redesign. A new design on top of a login you cannot find leaves you in the same place next year.
If the domain renewal is in someone else's account, ask them to move it to an account you control before any design work starts. The name on the truck is not safe while another person can let it expire.
If edits are slow, time the next small change. Ask for the phone number to be updated and write down the day you asked and the day it went live. That wait is part of the price. A site you cannot change on a Monday is a site that will show the wrong hours.
What no website price includes
The domain renewal at your registrar stays yours. Ads are separate. A photographer you hire is separate. More calls still depend on the town, the reviews, and whether you answer the phone. No honest price includes a traffic percent.
If you want this done from the site you already have, Vortex Personal is $59 a month for one live site. Pro is $449 a month for up to 10. Business is $2,499 a month for up to 150. Hosting is included. A year is ten times the month price. The old site stays up until you switch.
If the bills are split across people you cannot reach, start a rebuild from the URL you already have.
Keep the name while you do it. The steps are on keep your domain.
